Abstract

Keď sa Anwar as-Sādāt po neočakávanom úmrtí nesmierne populárneho Džamāla cAbdannāṣira stal prezidentom Egypta, prvé hodnotenie situácie v Egypte mu naznačilo, aké vážne úlohy ho čakajú: odstrániť svojich ľavicových súperov a vybudovať si spoľahlivú mocenskú základňu; ukončiť izraelskú okupáciu egyptského územia a pokonať sa s trvalými hospodárskymi problémami Egypta. Anwar as-Sādāt spustil kontrarevolúciu, ktorou zásadne odstránil z Egypta nāṣirizmus; vnútropoliticky tak, že socializmus nahradil nedobre riadeným kapitalizmom a v zahraničnej politike výmenou panarabských spojenectiev svojho predchodcu, spojenectvami s konzervatívnymi a „umiernenými“arabskými režimami. Sprievodná nová orientácia egyptskej zahraničnej politiky znamenala ukončenie privilegovaných vzťahov so Sovietskym zväzom a ponúknutie Egypta ako kandidáta na členstvo v americkom tábore. (Upon becoming president of Egypt following the sudden death of the immensely popular Jamāl cAbdannāṣir, Anwar as-Sādāt’s first assessment of his local environment in Egypt presented him with a number of dilemmas: how to eliminate his rivals from the left and establish a reliable power base; how to terminate Israeli occupation of Egyptian territory; and how to cope with Egypt’s perennial economic problems. Anwar as-Sādāt mounted a counter-revolution which essentially de-Nasserized Egypt; internally by replacing socialism with ill-regulated capitalism, and externally by replacing his predecessor’s Pan-Arab alliances with a coalition with conservative and “moderate” Arab regimes. The concomitant reorientation of Egyptian foreign policy resulted in the termination of the privileged relations with the Soviet Union and offering of Egypt as a candidate in the American camp.)
