Abstract

The article deals with the reconfiguration of space in the context of knowledge work in the information space. This is done along theoretical lines that emphasise the significance of the social construction of spaces and understand space in a relational perspective. Since office work is currently the most affected, at least in terms of the extent of flexibilisation of the place of work, the subject of this paper is how knowledge workers create their working space and what role (working) place plays in this. It is assumed that the immediate surroundings of the concrete workplaces in the information space have an effect on this process. It is also expected that the simultaneity of interwoven workspaces will not remain without consequences. Thus, the paper asks what it means for people to work in them, and what notions of workplaces and collaboration with others they develop. These questions are pursued using case studies from an exploratory study on spatial relations in the world of work during the pandemic as well as two older studies, primarily on the basis of mental maps and interviews.
