Importance of regional airports for businesses in Norway

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of regional airports on businesses in Norway. In particular, it investigates the impact of two regional airports: Ålesund Airport and Brønnøysund Airport. The study compares opinions of businesses served by the respective airports and is based on the findings of an online survey that was completed by over 350 businesses. The analysis finds that the airports play an important role in securing accessibility for local businesses and subsequently supporting their transport needs, especially for business travel and networking activities. The analysis also finds that air service provision is able to influence business investment and location decisions. The analysis finds that impacts vary for the different airports and tend to reflect the size and scope of services at the airport or specific characteristics of the region.
