Abstract

This article aims to identify development opportunities and barriers for a farm specialising in organic apple production and processing. Primary data was based on an interview questionnaire with the owners of a farm in Czernin, located in the Pomorskie Voivodship. The interview was conducted during the 16th “Festival of Taste” in Gruczno in August 2022. Secondary data was derived from a literature review and data from the Main Inspectorate of Agricultural and Food Quality. This study used a SWOT analysis of the farm under study and presented its cost structure. Some of the conclusions drawn from the interview questionnaire indicate that action under the European Green Deal (EGD) can encourage farmers to increase the area used for organic farming and increase the role of organic production in the fight against climate change and biodiversity loss, including through sustainable management of resources. However, the results of the costs analysis showed that the biggest obstacle is the financial situation, resulting from the cost of the land lease but not the costs incurred for plant production or other costs, i.e. fuel, repairs, insurance, labor, etc. The cost of the lease significantly exceeded the level of income, which contributes to the lack of operation and development of the farm. Despite the support system that promotes producers producing organic food to the market and contributes to the development of rural areas, the assumptions of the EGD in achieving the level of 25% of land for organic production by 2030 may be difficult to accomplish.
