Abstract

[paper in French] This article aims at identifying and analyzing coordination and contracting schemes in food supply chains. We provide a literature review related to the contracts between farmers and processing firms. We examine how the development of contracts can be used as an alternative to spot market in order to meet several objectives: performance, risk-management and countervailing market power. We study the role played by producer organizations to improve farmers’ horizontal coordination and enhance vertical coordination between the upstream and downstream stages of the industry.
