Abstract

Ce chapitre a pour but de présenter les principales formes organisationnelles rencontrées en France dans le transport fluvial de vracs. Il fournit une première approximation des coûts de transaction (Coase, 1937 ; Williamson, 1985 ; 1996) supportés par les chargeurs pour faire ou faire-faire cette prestation, coûts a priori logiquement plus élevé que dans le transport fluvial conteneurisé du fait précisément de l'absence de conditionnement des marchandises transportées et manutentionnées. Le matériau empirique sur lequel il prend appui est constitué d'entretiens et d'une extraction spécifique de l'enquête ECHO90, réalisée par l'INRETS/IFSTTAR en 2004, sur les pratiques des chargeurs. Les résultats de cette enquête permettent de caractériser les chaînes de transport fluvial de vrac rencontrées en France en 2004 après décomposition de leurs sous-transactions. Les attributs de ces chaînes transactionnelles sont ensuite examinés afin d'en expliquer les logiques économiques. En particulier, les coûts de transaction ex-ante et ex-post qu'ils sont susceptibles d'engendrer permettent d'expliquer pourquoi certaines chaînes sont intégrées ou quasiment intégrées, comme dans la filière du béton, quand d'autres secteurs les externalisent.
