Selon de nombreux observateurs, la politique monetaire aurait joue un role significatif au cours de toutes les etapes de la crise bancaire japonaise. Au cours de la seconde moitie des annees quatre-vingts, son orientation particulierement accomodante aurait favorise la formation des bulles sur les marches d'actif patrimoniaux et la fragilisation du systeme bancaire. L'objet de cette etude est de revenir en detail sur les determinants du comportement de la Banque du Japon au cours de ces episodes et de souligner les interactions entre la politique monetaire et la crise bancaire.
