Abstract

Cet article vise à confronter l’évolution des salaires au développement socio-économique de la France aux 19ème et 20ème siècles. Nous cherchons à détecter les chocs temporaires et permanents qui ont affecté la croissance des salaires réels français depuis le début du 19ème siècle, afin de proposer un nouveau découpage de la période d’étude en diverses sous périodes. Pour ce faire, nous avons recours aux outils récents de l’économétrie historique. Les résultats obtenus à partir de la détection et l’analyse des points atypiques montrent que deux événements majeurs ont influencé les salaires en France : la 2ème République et la crise de 1921. Si la 2ème République a un effet ponctuel sur l’évolution des salaires, nous mettons en évidence que la crise des années 1920 a un effet certes temporaire, mais plus long. L’étude des relations de causalité entre salaire, prix et chômage permet, quant à elle, de nous positionner par rapport aux datations proposées par Marchand et Thélot et celles fournies par Boyer.
