¿De tal palo tal astilla?

Abstract

Como está establecido en la literatura (Almlund y otros, 2011), las habilidades no cognitivas son un factor relevante en los resultados educativos y laborales de las personas. En esta comunicación profundizamos en un aspecto menos estudiado: el origen de las diferencias individuales y agregadas en esas habilidades. Para ello analizaremos el comportamiento diferencial en logro educativo, y laboral de los inmigrantes. Nuestro objetivo es realizar las estimaciones que permitan identificar los efectos causales de interés de forma independiente para el mayor número posible de países de destino. En concreto, centramos el análisis en la potencial relevancia de la desigual dotación de habilidades no cognitivas a la hora de explicar las diferencias entre países en fracaso escolar y en abandono escolar prematuro. Siguiendo el trabajo de Méndez (2013) que estableció la correspondencia entre las habilidades no cognitivas que se enumeran en la Encuesta Mundial de Valores como cualidades deseables en un hijo y los cinco rasgos de personalidad que componen el Big Five -permitiendo conectar los resultados obtenidos en el citado trabajo con los existentes en la literatura-, identificamos las habilidades no cognitivas cuya transmisión intergeneracional contribuye, en su caso, a reducir ese fracaso escolar.
