Abstract

[eng] The inequality in the distribution of household primary insomes in France from 1962 to 1979. . The article presents the evolution in the inequality of household primary incomes in France. The data corne from the french fiscal income survey for years 1962, 1965, 1970, 1975 and 1979. Different techniques are used in order to caracterize the inequality and its evolution : Lorenz ordering, computation of different inequality measures, decomposition by income-type, desaggregation by socio-professionnal categories of households, Shorrocks' decomposition of the passage from one distribution to the other. The obtained results are at variance from the traditionnal view according to which the reduction in income inequality is to be attributed to the growing importance of wages, which are also more equally distributed. The article shows that the inequality in incomes is reducing in France but for different and numerous reasons. The paper especially analyzes the responsability of pensioners' incomes in the observed trend.. rther depreciation of the dollar before that remediai actions are taken for the budget, and a stop to the wave of financial deregulation which has been undertaken in the past ten years. L'article étudie l'évolution de l'inégalité des revenus primaires des ménages en France à partir des données des enquêtes fiscales de 1962, 1965, 1970, 1975 et 1979. Il met en œuvre les différentes techniques permettant de caractériser l'inégalité d'une distribution de revenus et son évolution : classement de Lorenz, calcul d'indicateurs, décomposition par types de revenus, désagrégation par catégories socio-professionnelles, décomposition de Shorrocks du passage d'une distribution à une autre. Les résultats obtenus remettent en cause l'opinion généralement admise selon laquelle la réduction de l'inégalité doit être attribuée à l'importance accrue des revenus salariaux. L'article montre que si la réduction de l'inégalité a bien lieu, les facteurs qui en sont responsables sont multiples.
