¿Mejora el Programa de Alimentación Escolar (pae) el desempeno académico de los estudiantes en Ibagué?

Abstract

El presente trabajo estima el efecto causal del Programa de Alimentación Escolar (pae)sobre el rendimiento académico de los estudiantes del sector oficial, de grado once, del municipio de Ibagué en el 2018, utilizando la información del Simat y la base de datos de las pruebas Saber 11 del Icfes. Metodológicamente se utiliza un modelo econométrico de evaluación de impacto que se basa en la técnica de propensity score matchingpsm para identificar el efecto causal. Los resultados sugieren que el programa no tuvo ningún impacto sobre el desempeno académico de los estudiantes. Los problemas asociados a la asignación del operador y a la gestión del programa parecen haber influido de forma significativa sobre la efectividad del programa.******This paper estimates the effect of the school food program (pae, for its acronym in Spanish) on the academic performance of ninth-grade students at a public school in Ibagué in 2018, using information from Simat and the database of the Icfes Saber 11 tests. Methodologically, an econometric impact assessment model based on propensity score matching (psm) is used to identify the causal effect. The results suggest that the program had no impact on the students’ academic performance. The problems associated with operator assignment and program management seem to have significantly influenced the program’s effectiveness.******Este trabalho estima o efeito causal do Programa de Alimentacao Escolar sobre o desempenho academico dos estudantes do setor oficial, do último ano do ensino médio, do município de Ibagué, Colombia, em 2018, utilizan-do a informacao do Sistema Integrado de Matrícula e a base de dados das provas Saber 11 do Instituto Colombiano para la Evaluación de la Educación. Metodologicamente, é utilizado um modelo econométrico de avaliacao de im-pacto que está baseado na técnica de propensity score matching para identificar o efeito causal. Os resultados sugerem que o programa nao teve nenhum impacto sobre o desempenho academicos dos estudantes. Os problemas associados a designacao do operador e a gestao do programa parecem ter influenciado de forma significativa a efetividade do programa.
