Abstract

Die Entwicklung der Alterssicherung in Deutschland ist eines der zentralen Themen, mit denen sich Prof. Dr. Winfried Schmähl, seit Gründung des Zentrums für Sozialpolitik Leiter der Wirtschaftswissenschaftlichen Abteilung des ZeS, in seiner wissenschaftlichen Arbeit beschäftigt hat. Zur Ehrung und Verabschiedung von Winfried Schmähl aus dem "aktiven" Dienst der Universität Bremen veranstaltete das Zentrum für Sozialpolitik im Mai 2008 ein wissenschaftliches Symposium. Es richtete den Fokus auf die Frage, ob ein Paradigmenwechsel in der deutschen Alterssicherungspolitik schon während der letzten vier Regierungsjahre von Helmut Kohl stattgefunden habe. In einer - hochkarätig besetzten - Podiumsdiskussion wurde dieser Frage im Detail nachgegangen; Zeitzeugen und Weggefährten rekapitulierten die sozialpolitischen Entscheidungen Ende der 90er Jahre und befassten sich mit den Folgen für die gesellschaftliche Entwicklung der Bundesrepublik Deutschland. Die Podiumsdiskussion wurde von drei Vorträgen gerahmt; die in das Thema einführten, spezielle Facetten ausleuchteten und zugleich einen Überblick über Werk und Wirken Winfried Schmähls in Wissenschaft und Praxis gaben. Mit diesem Arbeitspapier macht das Zentrum für Sozialpolitik die Beiträge öffentlich zugänglich.
