Lebenswerte Straßen, Orte und Nachbarschaften: Wie der zukunftsgerechte Umbau gelingen kann

Abstract

Wie können Stadtstraßen nachhaltig umgestaltet und in lebenswerte öffentliche Räume transformiert werden? Diese Frage hat ein interdisziplinäres Projektteam aus dem Wuppertal Institut, der MUST Städtebau GmbH, der Zukunftsinitiative Klima.Werk/EGLV und dem Urban Participation Lab in den letzten dreieinhalb Jahren im Projekt "LesSON" untersucht. Gemeinsam entwickelten sie in einem intensiven Beteiligungsprozess Entwürfe für Straßenzüge in Dortmund und Gelsenkirchen. Zudem unterstützten sie sieben Kommunen in NRW ein Jahr lang bei konkreten Straßenraumprojekten und tauschten sich mit nationalen sowie internationalen Fachleuten aus. Im Fokus standen Methoden zur Einbindung der Zivilgesellschaft, Verbesserung verwaltungsinterner Zusammenarbeit und der Abstimmung zwischen Stadtverwaltung und Kommunalpolitik. Ziel war es, gesellschaftlich tragfähige und ambitionierte Lösungen zu entwickeln, die Anwohner*innen einbinden und mögliche Widerstände, etwa durch den Wegfall von Parkplätzen, minimieren. Die Ergebnisse und Erfahrungen bündelt der Wuppertal Report "Lebenswerte Straßen, Orte und Nachbarschaften - wie der zukunftsgerechte Umbau gelingen kann". Der Bericht dient weniger der detaillierten Analyse, sondern soll Praxiswissen vermitteln, inspirieren und Mut machen, ähnliche Prozesse anzustoßen. Er richtet sich primär an Kommunalverwaltungen, ist aber auch für zivilgesellschaftliche Akteur*innen und Interessierte nutzbar.
