Innovation: mehr als Forschung und Entwicklung: Wachstumschancen auf anderen Innovationspfaden

Abstract

Innovationen werden auf allen Ebenen von Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft als Schlüssel zu Wachstum und Beschäftigung angesehen. Vielfach lautet dabei die Formel: Mehr Forschung und Entwicklung erzeugt technologisch innovative Produkte, damit gelingt es den Unternehmen Wettbewerbsvorteile und Marktanteile zu erringen, was wiederum Wachstum und Beschäftigung schafft. Dieser Zusammenhang ist empirisch vielfach belegt und konnte auch durch die Erhebung Innovationen in der Produktion 2003 bestätigt werden. Gleichzeitig zeigte sich jedoch, dass weitere wachstumsträchtige Innovationsstrategien verfolgt werden können: Auch Unternehmen, die Innovationssprünge durch intelligente Produkt-Dienstleistungskombinationen oder innovative technisch-organisatorische Prozesse erreichen, sind ihren Konkurrenten im Beschäftigungswachstum überlegen. Damit zeichnet sich ab, dass Innovation mehr sein kann als Forschung und Entwicklung. Innovative Unternehmen, die zu Wachstum und Beschäftigungbeitragen, finden sich auch in nicht so forschungsintensiven Zweigen der Wirtschaft und sollten in ihren Innovationsanstrengungen entsprechend gewürdigt und unterstützt werden.
