Abstract

Sowohl auf internationaler Ebene als auch in Deutschland wird aktuell seitens Wissenschaft, Politik und Verbände über Open Access - also die kostenlose Verfügbarmachung von wissenschaftlichen Ergebnissen im Internet - diskutiert. Hintergrund sind die seit Mitte der 1990er Jahre stark gestiegenen Preise für wissenschaftliche Zeitschriften in Verbindung mit Produktbündelungen. In Deutschland haben sich die deutschen Forschungsorganisationen bereits 2003 im Rahmen der sogenannten Berliner Erklärung dafür ausgesprochen, "die Verbreitung von Wissen über das Internet nach den Prinzipien des offenen Zugangs zu fördern". Prinzipiell gibt es zwei Strategien, Forschungsergebnisse frei im Internet verfügbar zu machen - den Goldenen und den Grünen Weg. Während beim Goldenen Weg die Erstveröffentlichung von wissenschaftlichen Beiträgen in einer Open Access-Zeitschrift erfolgt, handelt es sich beim Grünen Weg um die Bereitstellung von wissenschaftlichen Beiträgen, v.a. von Preprints und Postprints, in frei zugänglichen Repositorien. Die vier großen deutschen Forschungsorganisationen (Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft, Leibniz-Gemeinschaft und Max-Planck-Gesellschaft) ergreifen vielfältige Maßnahmen, um Open Access zu fördern. Diese Maßnahmen betreffen sowohl den Goldenen als auch den Grünen Weg.
