Abstract

The goal of this article is to split and analyze in detail one of the most relevant texts in the academic literature about the ”Economic Viability of an independent Catalonia” published by Espasa and Bosch at the Journal of Economía Aplicada (Applied Economics) in its final version of March 2014.The text has been fully scrutinized using the methodology of Qualitative Data Analysis (QDA) supported by the approach NUD*IST ((Non Numerical Unstructured Data Indexing Searching and Theorizing). Grammar and lexical structures in the text are observed, orientations, citations and conclusions among others. This qualitative research does not get into the quality of the data and tables and other macroeconomic calculations in order to avoid another debate on this particular issue. Still the qualitative data analysis done observes some cracks in assumptions due to limitations or interpretations. The Qualitative Data Analysis conducted in the paper shows that even if its main structure, approaches and conclusions seem quite correct they are not.
