Desafíos y oportunidades para la inclusión laboral de las mujeres en el sector turístico de Ecuador

Abstract

El sector turístico en Ecuador tiene un alto potencial económico y de inclusión social, aunque atraviesa también un gran reto para la igualdad de género en términos de las condiciones de empleabilidad de las mujeres. Aunque las mujeres tienen una alta participación laboral en el sector, enfrentan mayor precariedad laboral, salarios inferiores y fala de protección social. Este estudio aporta nuevos insumos sobre los desafíos y oportunidades para la inclusión laboral de las mujeres en el sector turístico de Ecuador, en particular en las regiones de Amazonía y Sierra. Utiliza métodos cuantitativos y cualitativos para evaluar la calidad del empleo y el bienestar de las mujeres en el turismo. Los resultados revelan una segregación ocupacional significativa, con mujeres predominantemente en roles de limpieza y lavandería, y una brecha salarial desfavorable. Además, se identifican problemas de violencia de género y acoso sexual en el sector. Por su parte, se encuentran beneficios importantes en términos de los tipos de establecimientos: aquellos que tienen prácticas intencionales de inclusión y sostenibilidad ambiental tienen mejores condiciones de trabajo para las mujeres. Finalmente, el documento resalta algunas implicaciones de política de los hallazgos, tales como la relevancia del cierre de brechas de habilidades, promover la flexibilidad laboral y desarrollar estrategias claras para prevenir la violencia de género y el acoso sexual.
