Abstract

[eng] We provide a theoretical and empirical study of the supply of cattle in the Sahel. The livestock-keeper simultaneously chooses the temporal profile of his consumption and manages its portfolio as cattle is a capital good. The supply of cattle is on the one hand a function of relative prices of consumption goods and cattle and on the other hand a function of herd-size and price risks. Econometric testing of the function is made on pooled sahelian data and does not invalidate the model.
