Abstract

The disarmament for development negotiations bet that the arms race is dangerous because all countries are forced to increase their defence effort to meet the demonstration effects of their neighbors or adversaries who have increased their military spending. As all countries move in this direction, national and international security has rather deteriorated in an increasingly militarized world. Moreover, national economies are negatively affected in terms of the production of civilian goods. This procedure is therefore interesting in itself, but it obscures all the reasons for wars, which do not arise solely on the basis of economic considerations or the search for predation. The economic analysis highlights a certain but minor economic interest, but it will not be able to convince states that are bellicose for economic, historical or religious reasons to maintain a consistent level of insecurity.
