Abstract

War has not always been analysed as an economic phenomenon and has often been neglected by economists. Today, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, many economists, notably Nobel Prize winners, have engaged in new reflections on conflicts, introducing political, social or military variables alongside economic ones. The notion of "economic war" is also addressed, taking into account the effects of state domination, social inequalities, class struggle or the importance of plutocracy. Globalisation is not enough to ensure international security. In the same way, research in the armaments sector is powerful and excessively influences new technologies leading to effects of military and economic domination. Finally, disarmament first leads to forms of sectoral and regional economic recession before the possible appearance of the famous economic dividends of peace.
