Low-Carbon Growth in Northeast Asian Economies: Mirage or Reality?

Abstract

The Paris Climate Agreement established a new global target of combating global warming above 2 degrees Celsius. Over 180 countries have already committed to reduce or limit carbon emissions by 2030. This climatic goal will lead to the transformation and deep decarbonization of the global economy, with nearly zero carbon emissions soon after 2050. Northeast Asian countries are responsible for 40% of global CO2 emissions, and they have the technological and resource potential for decarbonization both domestically and within regional cooperation projects.
