Abstract

******ABSTRACT: The study of regional convergence in Colombia started more than 20 years ago. The academic discussion has been extensive and its conclusions are diverse. This document revises the main methodologies and findings proposed by the Colombian literature, using four different definitions of convergence: 1) Ss convergence; 2) s convergence; 3) Time series convergence and 4) Distribution dynamics. In general, the studies that implement the first two approaches generate mixed results. Nonetheless, the utilization of a recent definition of convergence provides more homogenous results. Using regional data for the last 20 years, we apply the former definitions of convergence for the case of Colombian departments. Output distribution across regions has not varied significantly in time, a circumstance that is often referred to in the literature as economic persistence.
