El Caribe antioqueno: entre los retos de la geografía y el espíritu paisa

Abstract

Arboletes, Necoclí, San Juan de Urabá y Turbo, no sólo son los municipios del Caribe antioqueno sino que comparten una segunda característica, hacer partede la periferia del país. En Colombia esto no parece ser una virtud, ya que sonprecisamente las poblaciones periféricas las que enfrentan los mayores nivelesde pobreza, baja cobertura en servicios básicos y bajos niveles de capitalhumano. Estos cuatro municipios, al igual que en el resto del Urabá, se destacanpor su importante aporte al sector agropecuario a través de la producción deplátano, banano y ganado vacuno. Debe tenerse en cuenta que en esta subregiónexiste también un gran potencial turístico, especialmente en ecoturismo. Apesar de que el Caribe antioqueno forma parte de uno de los departamentos másprósperos del país, sus características geográficas de localización y decondiciones climáticas extremas, han afectado negativamente su desarrollo económico y social
