La Deserción en la Educación Superior en Colombia durante la Primera Década del Siglo XXI: ¿Por qué ha aumentado tanto?

Abstract

El acceso a la educación superior aumentó vertiginosamente durante la primera década del siglo XXI. La tasa de cobertura bruta -contando el SENA- pasó de 14% a 36% entre 2000 y 2010 mientras la tasa de absorción -estudiantes de primer semestre en el ano presentes sobre el número de bachilleres el ano inmediatamente anterior en porcentaje- aumentó de 21% a 53%. No obstante, al tiempo que la cobertura en educación superior creció lo hizo también la tasa de deserción. Así, para los estudiantes de la cohorte de 2000 la tasa de deserción acumulada a décimo semestre era de 50.9% mientras que esa tasa superó 55.1% para la cohorte que ingreso en 2005. Este incremento está explicado por la mayor vulnerabilidad tanto socioeconómica como académica de las nuevas cohortes de estudiantes. También contribuye con esta tendencia el porcentaje más alto de estudiantes que acceden a las instituciones técnicas y tecnológicas frente a las universidades. Los apoyos financieros y académicos de las instituciones y los créditos del ICETEX han contrarrestado solo parcialmente la mayor deserción.
