Las exportaciones de algodón del Caribe Colombiano

Abstract

En la década del 60, se inició en la región Caribe un paulatino incremento en los terrenos orientados al cultivo del algodón hasta llegar a duplicar, a partir de 1964, las áreas destinadas a éste en el interior de la nación. Paralelo a este proceso de incremento en la producción algodonera regional, se presentó un ascenso constante de las exportaciones de esta fibra durante la década de los sesenta y hasta 1978, año a partir del cual comienzan a decaer los volúmenes exportados. El objetivo de este estudio es determinar cuáles fueron las variables que influyeron en el comportamiento registrado en las exportaciones algodoneras entre 1960 y 1996. En particular evaluar si la tendencia observada se debió a factores internos -políticas nacionales, industria textil y precios internos- o a factores externos -demanda y oferta mundial y precios internacionales-.
