¿Qué Ganó Y Qué Perdió La Economía De La Nueva Granada Con La Independencia?

Abstract

En este artículo se indaga acerca de la relación costo/beneficio de la Independencia del Virreinato de Nueva Granada de España en términos económicos. Para ello, primero se hace un repaso de la situación de la economía en el Virreinato de la Nueva Granada hacia 1810. Luego nos referimos a los principales costos y beneficios económicos de la Independencia, para proponer, de manera muy cualitativa, un balance final. Para sintetizar —en términos de la división braudeliana del tiempo histórico— se puede afirmar que los costos de la Independencia se reflejaron durante el desarrollo de los mismos eventos, es decir, durante la guerra y su coyuntura posterior, un periodo de unos cincuenta a sesenta años, que es lo que Braudel considera como el tiempo de la coyuntura. En cambio, el grueso de los beneficios se recibió en el tiempo de larga duración, en un horizonte de siglos, empezando con el siglo XX.
