La Independencia de la Banca Central en América Latina

Abstract

El cambio económico institucional reciente más importante en América Latina ha sido la creación de la banca central independiente. Ello forma parte de la estrategia de ajuste estructural que se ha venido emprendiendo en los últimos años, y constituye una herramienta clave para apoyar los esfuerzos de estabilización de una región tradicionalmente agobiada por la inflación. En este ensayo se analiza el origen y evolución de la indepedencia de la banca centrral en los principales países latinoamericanos (Argentina, Brasil, Chile, Colombia, México y Venezuela), así como su estructura institucional; su contribución a la estabilización y los problemas inherentes a su permanencia.
