Evolución reciente de las bajas por incapacidad temporal en España

Abstract

En los últimos años, las ausencias laborales por incapacidad temporal (IT) han mostrado un crecimiento sostenido en la mayoría de las economías de la Unión Europea. Este estudio, centrado en el caso de España, analiza la evolución reciente de la incidencia de la IT, sus posibles determinantes y los canales a través de los cuales afecta a la economía. Según datos de la Encuesta de Población Activa, el porcentaje de personas ocupadas que se ausentaron por IT pasó del 2,7 % en 2019 al 4,4 % en 2024. Este repunte se observa de forma generalizada en distintos grupos sociodemográficos, regiones, sectores de actividad y situaciones profesionales. Entre los factores que podrían explicar esta tendencia destacan el deterioro de la salud de la población trabajadora y la evolución del ciclo económico, aunque su peso relativo resulta difícil de cuantificar. Además de en el coste económico inmediato, el aumento de las bajas por IT podría tener efectos persistentes sobre la productividad empresarial, lo que subraya la importancia de abordar este fenómeno desde una perspectiva integral.
