Marshall e os críticos à Economia Política Clássica

Abstract

Este artigo analisa o período de transição entre a ortodoxia de Mill e a ortodoxia Marshalliana, com ênfase especial na influência dos debates econômicos das décadas de 1870 e 1880 na gênese das concepções de Marshall. Argumenta-se que nessas décadas a Economia Política foi questionada em três frentes diferentes: pelos críticos teóricos, pelos adeptos do método histórico e pelos humanistas. Argumenta-se também que Marshall respondeu a essas críticas, às vezes aceitando e incorporando-as, às vezes rejeitando-as e, ao fazê-lo, conseguiu construir um novo consenso disciplinar - que deu as bases para a prática da próxima geração de economistas.
