Abstract

Die Schulversorgung ist eine zentrale und unstrittige Aufgabe der öffentlichen Daseinsvorsorge, die in dünn besiedelten Räumen erhebliche Probleme verursachen kann. Am Beispiel des Kyffhäuserkreises wird daher der Frage nachgegangen, inwieweit im Primarschulbereich eine möglichst flächendeckende, qualitativ angemessene und wirtschaftlich tragfähige Schulversorgung sichergestellt werden kann. Ausgehend von den Problemen einer stark zurückgehenden Bevölkerung und Überalterung wird die Entwicklung des Schulnetzes in den vergangenen Jahren analysiert. Angesichts der politisch vereinbarten Schulmindestgrößen wird deutlich, dass trotz zahlreicher Schulschließungen die Tragfähigkeit einiger Schulen immer noch gefährdet ist... @Schools constitute one of the key and undisputed elements of public-service provision, but one which may be a source of major problems in more sparsely populated areas. Referring to Kyffhäuser country for purposes of illustration, this paper focuses on primary education and considers whether and to what extent it remains economically viable to maintain blanket coverage of primary schools of an acceptable standard. In light of the problems of acute population depletion and demographic ageing, the authors analyse the development of the schools network over recent years. Although many schools have already been closed down, in the light of political agreements on minimum sizes for schools, it is clear that some schools are still at risk of closure on grounds of viability...
