Abstract

This chapter explores the evolving landscape of sustainability performance measurement and reporting in India’s leading Information Technology (IT) giants. As sustainability becomes a critical factor in corporate strategy, IT companies like Infosys, TCS, Wipro, and HCL are increasingly integrating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles into their operations. The chapter discusses the importance of sustainability in the IT sector, highlighting the role of global frameworks such as the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) in shaping reporting practices. It also examines industry-specific metrics tailored for the IT sector, focusing on key performance indicators related to energy efficiency and carbon footprint reduction. Additionally, the chapter outlines real-life examples of sustainability initiatives undertaken by these companies, addressing challenges in data collection and reporting. As regulatory expectations rise, the chapter underscores the critical need for transparency and accountability in sustainability reporting. Furthermore, it anticipates future trends, including the role of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies in sustainability monitoring and the necessity of sustainable supply chain practices. Ultimately, the chapter argues that a robust commitment to sustainability is essential for enhancing corporate reputation and stakeholder value in the Indian IT landscape.
