Abstract

Through this chapter, we explore the role of talent management in the context of entrepreneurial spinoff teams. Based on our conceptual model, we propose that understanding the complex talent dynamic in spinoffs during their incubation journey may facilitate more effective spinoff management and technology commercialisation success. We draw on Garnsey’s Theory of the Early Growth of the Firm, Harper’s Theory of Entrepreneurial Teams and Timmons’ Model of New Venture Creation to highlight the potential value of talent management in supporting an entrepreneurial founder and their team to develop an early stage innovation for domestic and global markets. Our exploratory focus outlined in this chapter provides scope for further qualitative and quantitative research in this domain in order to apply and refine our model, and to further bridge together the talent management, entrepreneurship and spinoff literatures.
