Abstract

It’s possible there are things that you would like to change about your life. Perhaps this may revolve around spending more time on what matters, decluttering your environment, finding greater peace within your inner world or any other meaningful improvement you seek. Most likely, as you embark on your own journey towards getting there, you will realise that all of the above – and anything else you may pursue – simplifies your life. Personally, the joy of simplicity has always intrigued me. Take our appreciation for nature. It mostly rests on appreciation of the simplest of things – and some of those things have merely escaped our daily attention. I always wondered how something as existential as a night sky full of stars can leave us in so much awe. Take the human fascination for active volcanoes or the northern lights. Sure, the phenomena bringing about these realities are far from simple, yet the experience for us, as we bask in them, is. We are wired to enjoy the value of nature – as we are as much a part of it as it is a part of us – and I’m also convinced that we are wired to appreciate the joys of simplicity. Simplicity helps conserve energy otherwise wasted on decisions we could do without…
