Abstract

Precisely because human cooperative dynamics are so powerful, we may often find ourselves at their mercy instead of the other way around. The miracle of human collaboration always retains the hope of a brighter future on the horizon, but its actual effects might resemble dark magic more than anything else, luring us into traps we didn’t see coming. Our ability to shape our planet and reshape our lives may well track back to a collaboration miracle, but some of this spirit of teamwork has inevitably been disposed of in the process. Distrust is the most likely reason for this. Modern management theory contributed to alienating us from preferring collaboration over competition with a line of reasoning that appears logical, but directly contradicts how we are wired and what made us successful to begin with.
