Abstract

The search for ideas, both internal and external, is increasing as innovation is treated as a strategic asset by organizations. Knowing how an organization manages ideas to innovate can be a crucial point at the beginning of the innovation process that will define its success or failure. To assess the management of ideas in organizations, this chapter proposes a maturity model for managing ideas. The model was developed based on an extensive literature review and field interviews with experts in the field of innovation. The maturity model has four levels (reaction, initiation, expansion, and maturation) and six dimensions (environment, preparation, generation, selection, and monitoring). It is expected that, when applied to organizations, they gain insights to improve the way they manage ideas for innovation. In addition, the model is a mechanism for both innovation management and knowledge governance when strategically aligned.
