Abstract

Since the onset of the GFCGlobal Financial Crisis (GFC), issues concerning financial stabilityFinancial stability have become as important as those on monetary stabilityMonetary stability. A key question regarding their nexus: are the two mutually supportive or do they work against each other in the sense of a trade-off? This chapter explores background issues on the linkages between monetary and financial stabilityFinancial stability from central bank policyCentral bank policy perspectives. It explores some technical aspects of implementation and implications, especially concerning the central bank’s mandate.
