Smart Hospitality: A Bibliometric Review with Evolutionary Thematic Analysis on the Use of Emerging Technologies in Hotels and Their Impact on Innovative Tourism

Abstract

This study is based on the growing interest in the concept of Smart Hospitality, understood as the integration of emerging technologies in hotels to transform the tourist experience. The main objective is to analyze the scientific evolution of this field through a bibliometric review and evolutionary thematic analysis. To this end, 2222 scientific articles published between 2014 and 2024 in journals indexed in the Scopus database were collected and analyzed using Bibliometrix software to identify trends, relevant authors, leading countries, and key lines of research. The results revealed sustained growth in publications, especially since 2018, and a transition from conceptual approaches to integrative applications of artificial intelligence, IoT (Internet of Things), big data, and blockchain. Four evolutionary phases were identified that reflect the impact of factors such as the pandemic and digital transformation. And the main conclusion is that Smart Hospitality is consolidating as a strategic axis of tourism innovation that requires digital governance, sustainability, and intersectoral cooperation.
