Abstract

Environmentally fragile destinations confront rising visitor numbers, climate stress, and biodiversity loss. This paper argues that the two most frequented tourist settings—hotels and exhibition venues—can become effective advocates for low-impact behaviors, positioning tourism facilities as catalysts for long-term preservation of delicate ecosystems and cultural heritage. Emerging technologies and heritage-informed, time-tested building wisdom can work in concert to foster ecological awareness. For hotels, sustainability concerns not only the building itself but also guest-facing experiences: interactive eco-displays, smart energy dashboards, and AR tours translate resource consumption into actionable insights. Museums and exhibitions apply similar principles: immersive VR journeys into endangered habitats and AI-driven citizen-science platforms invite visitors to link global environmental challenges to local contexts. Individual case studies drawn from recent hospitality and museum projects and interviews with local stakeholders support the approach that the fusion of digital immersion and traditional craftsmanship strengthens place attachment. Therefore, the study proposes that an organized network of actions will contribute to a practical framework for designers, operators, and policymakers to reconcile tourism growth with environmental stewardship. The paper also addresses implementation barriers and design strategies that respect both ecological limits and cultural authenticity.
