Employee Job Satisfaction in Greek Ports Using a Multi-Criteria Method

Abstract

During the last few decades, ports have been important network nodes for cargo transportation, and they play a pivotal role in enhancing a country’s economic activity through the import and export handling. Port industry is one of the most dynamic and competitive industries around the world. Within this framework, satisfied employees tend to be more productive, provide better services to customers, and hence, can significantly enhance business profitability. Limited research answers the topic of job satisfaction of employees working at the Greek port industry. The aim of this research is to measure and analyze employee job satisfaction in ports in Greece using the MUSA method, which is a preference disaggregation model following the principles of ordinal regression analysis. This integrated methodology evaluates the satisfaction level of a set of 368 employees in the Greek port industry based on their values and expressed preferences. Results showed that employees are satisfied (80.38%). The research aims at providing practical insights and theoretical contributions to port enterprises in enhancing employee satisfaction and maintaining relevant advantages to their productivity.
