Abstract

This study aims to examine how small hotel managers in Greece perceive and approach cross-sectoral cooperation using digital solutions. Interaction between different sectors in the tourism industry has been receiving increasing attention. The goal of this research is to explore the operational practices within the hospitality sector, as well as the co-evolutionary digital processes and interactions with other economic sectors. The study has identified gaps in the existing theory of digital cross-sectoral cooperation in tourism and has attempted to establish a managerial framework to provide a holistic destination experience to visitors. The research adopts a qualitative approach and consists of a systematic literature review, semi-structured interviews with hotel and travel agency managers in Peloponnese, Greece. Thematic analysis was employed to understand the relationship between different economic sectors and to develop an operational model for a unique and sustainable customer experience. The systematic literature review and research findings revealed a theoretical gap and the absence of a digital business framework to enhance customer experience comprehensively. The study identified the need to leverage synergies between tourism industry and other business sectors by incorporating new digital technologies. This work provides information on how tourism is interrelated with other sectors of the economy.
