The values of a balanced culture

Abstract

Mission and values are intimately related. A company committed to a particular mission may develop very different cultures, depending on the values it actually lives by. For instance, if a company assumes a commitment to satisfy customers’ needs and defines its values as profitability and ethicality, that commitment will likely translate as “satisfy customers’ needs ethically and profitably.” Evidence of the connection is the fact that companies usually present their mission and values together. That is no coincidence. Often, a company’s mission can only be fully understood in light of its values.
