Abstract

Like all edited books, this is the result of collective efforts over a long period of time by a number of individuals. In our case, the book has taken over two years from initial decision to completion and has involved huge amounts of time and energy from twelve colleagues, located in a variety of countries across the world. In this introductory chapter we aim to help the reader understand why so many people committed themselves in this way, by exploring the rationales for, the contexts of and the arguments in the main body of this book.
