Abstract

This chapter provides the international market trends for solar energy photovoltaic technologies, since few years ago and its future till 2050. According to the global PV generation forecast, China is supposed to be the largest producer of PV electricity after 2020. By contrast, the USA' share is predicted to remain at about 15% starting 2020 onward, while Europe's share is predicted to reduce from 2015 to 2045. The chapter shows that the energy consumption in Egypt was met by oil and natural gas at 41 and 46%, respectively. The remainder was provided by renewable energy and coal sources. For the purpose of designing financial assessment analyzing PV systems, the chapter presents the five relevant economic financial analysis methods that are often used for investment decision-makers. These methods are payback analysis, net benefit analysis, saving-to-investment ratio, adjusted internal rate of return, and life-cycle cost. In the same manner, the chapter describes two case studies for financial assessment analyzing photovoltaic systems in Egypt. The first case is related to the on-grid PV power plant, while the second case represents the finance analysis of a standalone off-grid PV system generating electricity to feed a residential house in rural zone of Egypt.
