Towards person-centred practice

Abstract

This chapter draws on the evidence from a major independent national research and development study which explored with service users, carers, practitioners and middle managers; what person-centred practice meant to them; how to develop it effectively; what barriers stood in its way and how these might be overcome. We see how it is possible to move closer to such ‘personalised’ practice; but that two major barriers which demand more structural intervention continue to obstruct its full and sustainable implementation - culture and funding.
