La capacitación laboral en especialidades de gran demanda en el mercado e instituciones de reconocida calidad y pertinencia puede provocar mejoras sustantivas en la vida de jóvenes en condiciones de pobreza y marginalidad urbana. Este libro presenta una evaluación realizada al Sistema de Becas de Capacitación Laboral implementado por Propoli para beneficiar a jóvenes provenientes de los distritos más pobres de Lima Metropolitana, y destaca sus amplios resultados positivos en cuanto a mayores niveles de empleo e ingresos laborales en plazos relativamente cortos. Asimismo, se discute una propuesta de inserción permanente de este tipo de programa dentro de la estructura del Estado como una capa intermedia de formación, con financiamiento reembolsable, para jóvenes pobres con experiencia laboral inicial.
