Abstract

Das Jahr 2023 war wirtschaftlich durch Inflation und Rezession gekennzeichnet. Österreich emittierte auch aufgrund der Konjunkturflaute erneut deutlich weniger Treibhausgase als im Vorjahr (–6,6%), und auch der Energieverbrauch ging zurück (–2,5%). Ursächlich für diese Entwicklungen waren die anhaltend hohen Energiepreise infolge des Ukraine-Krieges, die milde Witterung, der Ausbau der erneuerbaren Energietechnologien sowie Verbesserungen in der Energieeffizienz der Kapitalstöcke. Der Treibhausgasausstoß erreichte mit 68,7 Mio. t CO2-Äquivalenten den niedrigsten Wert seit 1990. Dennoch besteht weiterhin großer Handlungsbedarf, um das österreichische Ziel der Klimaneutralität bis 2040 zu erreichen, insbesondere da die vorläufigen Daten für 2024 auf eine deutliche Verlangsamung der Emissionsminderungen hindeuten. Das diesjährige Sonderthema befasst sich mit dem Potenzial von Batteriegroßspeichern, zur Energiewende beizutragen, indem sie erneuerbare Erzeugungstechnologien, vor allem Photovoltaik, ergänzen. Die Kombination von Batteriespeichern und Photovoltaikanlagen kann in einem klugen Regulierungsumfeld die Strompreise glätten bzw. senken und die Erfordernisse des Netzausbaus reduzieren.
