An Investigation of the Impact of Family and Career Variables on Organisational Commitment

Abstract

Data obtained with the aid of structured questionnaires were used to examine the relative effect of family and career variables on the organisational commitment of employees in technical, professional and administrative/managerial jobs in Singapore. Career variables made the greatest contribution to explaining commitment, followed by demographics (used as controls) and family variables. Limitations and implications of the findings are discussed and directions for future studies suggested.
