Suburbanization in Russia: does cottages solve the housing problem?

Abstract

Possibilities of solutions housing problem investigated in terms of having families have additional housing resources. Often households, especially families with children and extended family that live in a house close of the rational reasons, correlating benefits from a convenient location, the possibilities of joint housekeeping and child care costs with the expansion of the main housing. However, some of these families have an additional second home - an apartment or a room in a communal flat, and this formally removes them from the number in need of better housing conditions. Residents of major cities for a weekend or a long time to go on vacation cottages that time takes the edge off the problem of cramped housing conditions in the city. According to the results of representative surveys of the population, we describe the cottage lifestyle of Russians on the example of the inhabitants of the city of Moscow, analyzing its scope, factors and connection with the problem of narrowness of the main housing. Also assessed the impact of housing on account of the second increase in the housing supply of the population of Russia.
