Abstract

The digitalisation of the health care sector is advancing in an unstoppable manner and is changing the provision of medical services to an unprecedented extent through a steadily increasing implementation of information and communication technologies in medical care. As of 01.01.2018, introduction of the electronic patient file will create a telematics infrastructure that will serve as the basis for communication in the healthcare sector. In addition to improving the quality and efficiency of medical care, it is also intended to generate health economic benefits. This article shows that the implementation of the electronic patient file still involves overcoming many challenges such as data protection, data security and IT security, to name a few.
