Fusiones en el sector bancario. Un caso aplicado para Bolivia

Abstract

Dada la dinámica actual del sector bancario, donde de manera más frecuente se tiene la presencia de alianzas entre diferentes agentes, ya sea por tamaño o especialización de cartera, en este documento se testea la presencia de economías de escala, de ámbito y subaditividad para el sector bancario boliviano, con la finalidad de determinar si existen fundamentos técnicos que justifiquen llevar adelante fusiones. Mediante la técnica de regresiones aparentemente no relacionadas, se estiman funciones de costos según tamaño de bancos y para el total de la industria, considerando el caso de los bancos múltiples. Los resultados sugieren que existen fundamentos técnicos que respaldan la factibilidad de llevar adelante fusiones debido a la presencia de economías de tamaño en esta industria.
